COOPER Road Improvements (Riggs RD. to OCOTILLO RD.)

PROJECT UPDATE

 

Construction continues for improvements to Cooper Road from approximately 3,500 feet north of Chandler Heights to Riggs Road. Improvements include construction of raised medians, bike lanes, left turn lanes, sidewalks, curb, gutter, street lighting, traffic signals, drainage components, landscaping and utility relocations. Provided below is information on the upcoming construction schedule, but please remember schedules can be impacted by a variety of factors to include weather, materials scheduling, and coordination with others. Should you not wish to receive these project updates, please reply to this email and I’ll gladly remove you from our distribution.

  • Crews continue work on sewer pipeline and manholes from Chandler Heights Road to Vallejo Street.
  • Grading crews are currently working to prepare the subsurface of the east side of Cooper Road for paving. Grading is also taking place in various locations to prepare for concrete work.
  • Concrete crews are currently forming and pouring tie-in points for drainage improvements, such as scuppers and catch basins, and also transition points at curb returns off of Cooper Road. This work will be ongoing for the next few weeks.
  • Currently scheduled for March 31 and April 1, paving crews will pave the base course (bottom layer) of asphalt on the east side (northbound lanes) of Cooper Road, from the northeast corner of the Chandler Heights Road intersection to Kaibab Drive. Turn restrictions may be in place at the Chandler Heights Road intersection during this activity, and as this work crosses side streets, there may be brief periods where access is restricted to allow time for the asphalt to cure. Crews will work to restore access as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience during the paving activity.
  • Grading crews will then move to begin preparing the subsurface of the middle of Cooper Road for paving from Victoria Street to Via de Arboles, tentatively scheduled to take place in mid-April.
  • Crews continue work to install remaining wrought iron fencing and other property fencing throughout the project area.  
  • Electrical crews are nearing completion installing street light foundations, poles and junction boxes throughout the project area. Once complete, SRP electric crews will need to pull wire to be able to energize the street lights, and this effort is expected to begin in early April.
  • Cooper Road remains open for travel during this work, one lane in each direction, with access to businesses and residences maintained. As the work effort crosses driveways or side streets, every effort will be made to provide access; however, there may be brief periods where restrictions are necessary so the contractor may have a flagman to assist, or need to cover an excavated area to provide access.  We appreciate your patience in these limited instances.
